The Campus

Tilton School is located in the heart of New Hampshire's Lakes Region. The campus includes tennis courts, pool, gym, volleyball court, 140 acres of woodlands, open fields, trails, streams and ponds. Located near Laconia, Tilton is near many restaurants, shops, factory outlet stores and only one hour away from the White Mountains. Canoe trips are offered by resident faculty on the many rivers that flow through the area.

THE MEETING ROOMS AND POSTER AREAS

The meeting sessions will be held in the Hamilton Hall theater. This room is 40' x 50' and will seat 200. Some of the chairs are set up on the same level as the speaker, while the back of the room has raised seating with tablet arms. The room has a high ceiling, good acoustics, and air conditioning. Slides are projected onto a large movie screen on a raised stage.

Poster sessions and social functions are held in the new snack bar located in the new gymnasium. The posters will be set up vertically in the room adjacent to the snack area. Poster size is 4x4 feet (trifolded). Tilton runs a pub where conferees can buy a "membership" (last time $20/week) that entitles them to partake of the beer and wine provided to members. Since this is not a licensed operation, those who do not wish to join are free to BYOB.

AV EQUIPMENT

Audio-visual equipment is available at all sites during the summer. The equipment provided consists of an amplified sound system with a speakers' microphone at the podium and two other microphones for questions from the audience. In addition, each meeting room is equipped with an overhead projector, a slide projector, a pointing device and a timer. Some conferences have special needs. The following equipment is available by special arrangement through the Gordon Conference office or through the resident manager at the site:

  • VCR tape deck
  • lenticular screen for 3-D slides
  • large screen projector for computer or VCR presentation
  • 16MM and 8MM movie projectors, additional slide and overhead projectors.

The amount of extra equipment is limited, and reservations are made on a first come, first served serve basis. A professional sound system was installed at Tilton recently. The school also split the costs for a new SharpVCR/computer projector with GRC ($5,000 total cost).

THE FACILITIES

Tilton has 109 double rooms, 39 singles and 7 rooms with baths. With the exception of the rooms with baths, the toilet and shower facilities are separate from the sleeping rooms. During hot weather, rental fans are available. The dining room seats 260 at round tables set up for seven people. Vegetarian entrees are available at all meals.

HANDICAPPED ACCESSIBILITY

Tilton facilities are readily accessible to handicapped conferees. The meeting room, via a side entrance, the snack bar/poster area and some of the dorms, have no stairs or have ramps for wheel chair access. The dining room is accessible by ramp from the street side of the building.

It is best to have any disabled conferee contact the GRC site manager ahead of time to insure that the proper accommodations are available.

ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES

Tilton has a special state license and usually sells beer and wine in the snack bar. Since the site is licensed by New Hampshire, conferees may not bring in their own alcohol into the snack bar area. Conferees are free to consume their own alcohol in other areas of the campus, except in the dining hall.
